Medway power station was commissioned in 1995, originally as a joint venture, SSE (then Southern Electric) being one of four owners. In October 2003, SSE took full ownership of the site.
In light of challenging market conditions for gas-fired generation, SSE has undertaken a comprehensive programme of upgrade works at Medway power station. The works have included upgrades to gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers and process control systems and have been designed to increase the flexibility and efficiency of the plants.
The work to upgrade Medway power station is fully complete and it is now able to operate at a higher efficiency with the increased flexibility necessary to satsify the trading requirements of the local transmission system.
