Distribution network operators
There are six distribution network operators (DNOs) that operate across Great Britain. They are responsible for distributing the electricity from the transmission system and maintaining the cables, substations and equipment.
There is only one DNO in any given part of Great Britain. The map below shows the regions each DNO is responsible for.
DNOs do not supply electricity to homes and businesses. Customers can choose from many different suppliers and can change from one to another at any time. Electricity suppliers pay DNOs to transport electricity through the wires to homes and businesses.
