Peterhead secures capacity contracts in RWE transfer

SSE has reached an agreement with RWE Generation UK for the transfer of Capacity Market contracts from RWE’s Aberthaw B Power Station to SSE’s Peterhead Power Station in Aberdeenshire.

Through this agreement, SSE’s gas-fired Peterhead Power Station will secure contracts for 2019/20 and 2020/21 for its full capacity market volume*.

The transfer of the 2019/20 capacity obligations has now been confirmed by National Grid, with the changeover of the 2020/21 obligations to be completed when the transfer window for that year opens.

Peterhead Power Station already holds contracts for the capacity years 2018/19 and 2021/22.

Stephen Wheeler, SSE’s Managing Director of Thermal Energy, said:

“We’re delighted to have reached this agreement with RWE for the transfer of Capacity Market contracts to Peterhead. This agreement means the station will be contracted through to September 2022, helping to safeguard customers’ power supplies by offering flexible and reliable generation capacity.”
