SSE Airtricity education partnership launches with a big bang
SSE Airtricity has joined forces with W5, Northern Ireland’s award-winning family science and discovery centre beside The SSE Arena, Belfast, to power its educational programme for children and young people of all ages over the next three years.
Northern Ireland’s greenest home energy supplier and largest provider of wind power, is the new official partner of Education at W5. The launch of ‘Education at W5 Powered by SSE Airtricity’ took place in the popular centre and coincides with The Big Bang Theatre Show, which is running at W5 until April 10. This latest W5 production educates children about the importance of science, including the production of energy, in an entertaining and informative way.
The W5 SSE Airtricity Education Programme, which is delivered in-centre in W5 as well as in the classroom through an outreach programme, places learning in context with hands-on, curriculum-linked workshops. Each of these workshops is designed to complement learning in school or to introduce students to an inspiring new area of science. In addition to in-centre training for students, the SSE Airtricity-backed education programme includes a STEM-related outreach programme, bringing science and discovery lessons out of the centre and into life with schools and youth community groups across Northern Ireland.
Speaking at the launch of the new partnership, Ronan Brady, Head of Marketing & Digital at SSE Airtricity said: “At SSE Airtricity we’re committed to making a positive difference to our young people, and in particular supporting the next generation to have a greater awareness and understanding of the importance that science and energy play in the world around us at all times. That’s why we’re delighted to be announcing a three-year education partnership with W5 which will see us becoming the new power behind education at Northern Ireland’s best-loved family science and discovery centre.
“Working together, SSE Airtricity and W5 will extend science and discovery learning beyond the classroom to children across Northern Ireland of all ages and at all key stages, and in doing so we will help demonstrate to young people how science fills our lives with wonderful things and how energy in particular is there to be enjoyed.”
Judith Harvey, General Manager at W5 added: “At W5 energy including renewable energy sources is something we help children to discover more about through workshops and interactive exhibits. This is what makes SSE Airtricity the perfect partner for our education programme. We also turn 15 this year and what better way to celebrate than with this exciting partnership.”
