What's required?

You’ll need a minimum of Maths and Science (preferably Physics) at A2 Level (grade A-C) or in Scotland SQA Highers level (grade A-B). Alternatively, we will accept an equivalent qualification in a relevant Engineering subject, at a minimum of HNC level.

What you’ll bring

Your personal attributes are just as important as your academic achievements. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who have a strong interest in engineering and a fascination with how things work. No specific work experience is required for our trainee engineer programme, however, it’s great if you have some technical or semi technical experience in the work place and are not averse to working outdoors.

You must also consider that you will need to be flexible with working hours and travel, as there could be a requirement to work out of hours (we are a 24hr business that works around the clock to keep the lights on) and late nights from time to time. You will also be staying away on block release with your studies at our academic provider.

The values that everyone at SSE shares

Our values are incredibly important to us. We believe the family atmosphere in SSE is due to the motivated people who work with us and share our values. We take pride in our work and employ people who care about quality and want to feel proud to be part of the SSE family.

As safety is always top of our agenda we’re keen to find people who are safety conscious and act as “their brother’s keeper”. We also strive for excellence and to be the best at everything we do so we’ll encourage you to be imaginative, share your good ideas and work to a high standard. We want to be able to see that you understand and share the values that underpin our business. During the recruitment process you should consider how you can demonstrate these values in your life.

If you have the skills to work in an environment that is passionate about safety, innovation, teamwork and excellence in everything we do, and want to be part of one of the greatest growth industries of the 21st century, we’d like to hear from you.
