Diversity is vital for securing SSE’s future

SSE’s Metering and Smart Transformation Director, Sara Jane Asquith, has joined the judging panel for the Worldpay everywoman in Retail Ambassadors awards.

The Worldpay everywoman in Retail Ambassadors awards is an international awards programme designed to celebrate the careers of inspirational woman who show how retail businesses can offer exciting and rewarding careers.

A number of SSE employees have been nominated for the awards. Candidates are nominated by their colleagues in recognition of their dedication, hard work and the inspiration they give to their fellow colleagues on a regular basis.

Sara Jane said: “We are extremely pleased several women in our Retail team have been nominated for this year’s award programme. This is just one part of our efforts to recognise and develop talent within SSE’s retail business and our aim to be a more diverse and inclusive company. We all wish them the best of luck for both the awards and their future careers with SSE.”

SSE has a strong track record in encouraging diversity. A strategy for how it aims to become a more diverse and inclusive organisation – called ‘In, On, Up!’ – has been rolled out right across the company, with a focus on the following three key areas:

  • attracting women to join SSE;
  • supporting women to stay; and
  • ensuring there’s a fair playing field for women to progress their careers.

People have always been considered SSE’s most important asset. But getting the right mix is important to help the company grow. Evidence shows more diverse organisations perform better and are more robust in tough times.

SSE is under no illusion; there is a lot of work to be done to achieve better gender balance, not only in SSE but across the wider industry. By supporting programmes such as the Worldpay everywoman in Retail Ambassadors Awards it will help us to take bold steps towards reaching these diversity goals.
