The IT degree apprenticeship is a day-release programme where you will rotate through various roles within IT whilst completing your IT degree over four years.
From the start you’ll learn the role of IT in business, helping to solve real problems using IT. You’ll have the opportunity to work in a whole range of different areas such as emerging technology, infrastructure support, system architecture and project management. Your final six months will be spent in a job role that is likely to be your full-time job at SSE once you’ve finished your Apprenticeship.
The IT degree apprenticeship covers the following core elements:
- IT Strategy and Change Management
- Network and Enterprise Architecture
- Web Design and Performance Improvement
- IT Project Management
- Cyber Security
Throughout your IT Apprenticeship we will work with you to support your personal development by providing a supportive learning environment, work experience and great career opportunities.
On successful completion of the IT Degree Apprenticeship you could end up working as an Analyst Programmer (Development, Production Support), a Test Analyst, PMO Analyst or possibly a Business Analyst.

IT is constantly changing to meet business needs, we are investing significant sums, and growing our capabilities in new and emerging technologies. This is a period of exciting change and Degree Apprentices joining SSE have the opportunity to be at the heart of this. We will help you develop your technical skills, aligning with the degree course modules, as well as getting you involved in the business areas of IT such as finance, planning and project management. You’ll be helped with personal development and soft skills such as communications and presentation skills, and we have a mentoring network to provide additional support and guidance.
You’ll need to work hard over the 4 years, but at the end of it you’ll have invaluable experience, a degree, and a chance to actively contribute to our business”.
